For nearly two years, The NJJ Sports & Entertainment Complex was just a dream for Garrett Johnson. As a minister, he had become increasingly aware of the division of the American family. Everyone seemed to be going their separate ways – kids spending more time with friends, playing sports, video games or just hanging out, while their parents’ ideas of relaxation and entertainment were quite different. The days of spending quality time together as a family seemed to be disappearing.

Garrett wanted to help families renew their outlook, passion for life and their commitment to family values. “Living the dream, your dream, requires your heart’s passion and being able to share that dream with the world is your vision,” Garrett said. The NJJ will be a place that brings families together, while allowing each individual to express and pursue his or her own interests.

It was a true gift from God when, in the spring of 2005, Garrett was able to begin the long, challenging process of making his dream a reality. Not long after, however, tragedy struck when he lost many close family members, including his beloved brother, Nolie, all within two months. Again, God intervened, and with His strength, Garrett was able to emerge from a long period of grief more determined than ever to make his dream a reality.

Staying true to Nolie’s life-long motto, “together in unity,” Garrett’s vision for The NJJ is a friendly, secure environment built on 120 plus acres where families can fellowship together. The programs offered will enhance members’ lives by providing for a healthier mind, body and spirit.
